Restaurants in Sifnos: where and what to try
Where to eat in Sifnos
Sifnos is not only a destination for relaxation and swimming but also for unforgettable culinary experiences!
Sifnos is one of those islands you remember by… taste. From the Sunday chickpea stew and mastelo to chickpea fritters and aged manoura cheese, the local cuisine takes center stage in taverns, fish taverns, modern bistros, and beach bars. The options are spread all across the island — Apollonia, Kamares, Kastro, Platys Gialos, Chrysopigi, Faros, Vathy, Artemonas, Kato Petali, Cheronissos — covering every occasion: family lunch, romantic dinner with a view, or snacks right after swimming.
If you’re traveling in summer, especially July–August, you’ll need to make a reservation.
Where to go
Apollonia
The heart of the evening stroll, with a mix of modern Mediterranean restaurants and traditional home-cooked dishes.
If you enjoy creative, refined cuisine with a good atmosphere, we recommend Drimoni, where a contemporary Mediterranean approach meets local ingredients. For something more traditional and hearty, Tou Apostoli to Koutouki serves classic and Sifnian flavors – perfect for groups wanting good food in the heart of the action.
Also in Apollonia, I Oraia Sifnos stands out for its homemade dishes and the “old-style taverna” feeling that Greek travelers often look for.
Cheronissos
The most “seaside” food destination, with tables right by the water and views of the small harbor. If you dream of fresh daily fish and meze right on the sea, check out Cheronissos: a picturesque setting, classic recipes, and tranquility that fits perfectly after a swim.
Chrysopigi
A landmark spot of the island, ideal for dinner with a view of the Aegean. For seafood and Mediterranean dishes inspired by the island, we recommend Chrysopigi Restaurant: focus on quality ingredients, an inviting atmosphere all day long, and the perfect setting for couples.
Kamares
The port gathers all-day options — perfect for eating right after arrival or just before departure. You’ll also find everything from souvlaki and pizza to fried fish and traditional dishes after a swim.
Kastro
A romantic stop for wine and dishes with a view. Narrow alleys, lights, and Aegean breeze – this is the area that *demands* a reservation if you’re here in August.
Platys Gialos, Faros & Vathy
Seaside and relaxed. Ideal for families and anyone wanting to stay close to the beach. You’ll find beach bars, Mediterranean and gourmet restaurants, fresh fish, and local daily dishes.
What to try
- Sifnos Chickpea Stew (Revithada): Traditionally baked overnight in a clay pot. You’ll find it in many taverns, usually served on Sunday lunchtime.
- Mastelo: Slow-cooked lamb or goat, aromatic and juicy — perfect for dipping bread.
- Chickpea fritters & caper salad: Ideal as appetizers.
- Local cheeses: Manoura/Chloromanoura and Xynomizithra, both pair beautifully with a Greek salad.
- Fresh fish and seafood: Especially in Cheronissos, Kamares, and Faros — ask for the “catch of the day.”
Practical tips for better dining
- Peak hours: 13:30–15:30 and 20:00–22:30. If you’re a group or want a table with a view, call early.
- Families: Prefer seaside areas (Platys Gialos, Vathy, Kamares) for easy access and space.
- Vegetarian/fasting options: Most menus include them; ask for suggestions based on seasonal ingredients.
- Getting around: Distances are short, but nighttime parking can be tricky in popular areas (Apollonia, Artemonas, Kastro).
Our recommendations
