The winds in Sifnos and the Aegean
The island is mainly affected by northern winds, while in summer, the "meltemi" winds appear, cooling the atmosphere and making the heat more bearable.

The meltemi winds start in late May and last until October, reaching their peak intensity in July and August. They usually blow from 8 AM to 8 PM, with their strongest presence around midday, gradually weakening in the late afternoon.
During winter, strong northern winds dominate, sometimes reaching 8-9 on the Beaufort scale, especially in the Cyclades and the straits of Kafireas (Cape Doro). During this period, the Sirocco wind may also appear, a warm and humid southern wind that brings low clouds and rain, though such stormy winds are rare in the Aegean.
If you visit Sifnos in the summer months, the refreshing sea breeze and meltemi winds will make your stay even more enjoyable!
