The cosmopolitan beach of Sifnos
Platis Gialos is the busiest and most organized beach in Sifnos. Its name means "wide shore," as its coastline is long and spacious, offering comfort to every visitor.
Sights & historical landmarks
Northeast of Platis Gialos lies Aspros Pyrgos, one of the 55 ancient towers of Sifnos. Although it is not open to visitors, its presence remains an important historical landmark of the island.
At the entrance of the bay is the uninhabited islet of Kitriani, home to its only building: Panagia Kiprianou (10th-11th century). This is the oldest church in Sifnos, a peaceful and sacred site that stands out in the landscape.
On the way to Platis Gialos, you’ll find a turn leading to Panagia tou Vounou (1813). One of the oldest and most beautiful churches in Sifnos, it is built on a spot with a breathtaking view of the sea. The courtyard, shaded by pine trees, offers a refreshing retreat, while the lower terrace is like a balcony over the Aegean, overlooking Kitriani and the bay of Platis Gialos. During the summer, cultural and musical events take place here—if you happen to catch one, it’s definitely worth attending!
